SUMMARY:Incidents in the Life of an Anglican Slave
DESCRIPTION:Incidents is inspired by a letter written in 1723 from an anonymous enslaved Virginian to the archbishop of London\, asking the archbishop\, and vicariously King George\, to “releese us out of this cruell bondegg”. It is thought to be the earliest written plea for freedom from slavery in the British Empire. \nThe extraordinary 1723 letter is housed at Lambeth Palace Library. Three centuries on\, the play brings the enslaved Virginian to life\, to address\, finally\, the likely intended recipient of the letter: the Archbishop of Canterbury. \nWritten and performed by London-based writer and researcher\, Desirée Baptiste\, this play has been performed at Chester Cathedral\, Jesus College Cambridge\, Lambeth Palace Library\, the Edinburgh Fringe\, All Souls\, Oxford\, and other venues in the UK and overseas\, including in Barbados. \nQ & A with Desiree following the performance. \nPresented in partnership with Ripon Cathedral. \nAge Guide 14+ \nTickets £15 \n*Evening multi-buy deal available*

SUMMARY:Morris Dance from 400 Roses & Slubbing Billy's
DESCRIPTION:Formed in 2005\, the 400 Roses are a unique dance troupe\, that combine Tribal Belly Dance with UK-style Folk and Morris Dance. \nThe Black\, Red and White themed costumes use an abundance of red and white silk roses to represent our Yorkshire and Lancashire origins. \nThe group is based in and practice in Shipley\, West Yorkshire. \nSlubbing Billy’s is a mixed Morris side dancing in the North West style. They dance in clogs and bowler hats decorated with fresh flowers. A large bass drum keeps them in time and their musicians play traditional folk dance tunes. There’s plenty of space left\, have you got a fantastic tree you can add to the museum? \nAbout the performer: \nHarry Pizzey is a multi-disciplinary designer based in Cardiff\, Wales. After studying an undergraduate degree at the Bartlett School of Architecture he went on to graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a master’s degree in Design for Performance in 2019. In the same year he was also a finalist for the Linbury Prize for Stage Design\, with work displayed in the National Theatre. DESCRIPTION:St Aelred’s Principal Dance Teacher\, Una says: “We are a traditional Irish dance group made up of 25 dancers. We go from young talent\, all the way to incredibly skilled older dancers. We love performing for our local community. We regularly perform to thousands each year on St Patrick’s day in Leeds and York. Our group is eye catching in vibrant traditional dresses.
