We are delighted to welcome Peter Chand as our 2025 Storyteller in Residence. Peter will be staying with us for three days, performing and running workshops for both adults and children.
Peter is constantly in demand for his skill as a storyteller specialising in tales from India. His work has taken him to many well-known and respected venues such as The Southbank Centre London, The Singapore Storytelling Festival and The National Gallery London, as well as a multitude of literature festivals.
Peter regularly visits his family in the Punjab and collects traditional stories, translates them into English and shares them with audiences worldwide.
“Inspiration was dripping out of every word… It seems to be a story can have a life of its own”.
Amsterdam Storytelling Festival
Peter will be performing Mangoes on the Beach as a daytime event at our newest venue, the Leper Chapel on Wednesday 2 July and leading storytelling workshops in primary schools on Thursday 3rd.
Adults are invited to Peter’s Storytelling for Beginners workshop in Ripon Library on Friday 4 July – perfect for parents, grandparents, teachers, those who use public speaking at work, or are just curious about this ancient art.
Mangoes on the Beach takes the story of Peter’s parents’ journey from the Punjab to England in the 1950s and weaves it with traditional Indian folk talks.
“He’s a bridge between two cultures and two generations… I was spellbound” Kim Normanton, Loftus Productions for BBC Radio 4
