It was fantastic to welcome Bidi Iredale from Vamos Theatre back to work with us again this week. Last seen as a Crimplene Crusader on the streets of Ripon at RTF 23, Bidi returned this week to lead an inspiring workshop with the intriguing title Listening with Your Eyes.
Staff and volunteers from Lister House and Dementia Forward were joined by care workers from Sycamore Hall to explore non-verbal communication and empathy in care settings. It was a lively and thought-provoking session with lots of practical ideas. Together we explored creative new ways of communicating —thank you, Bidi!
Vamos Theatre is the UK’s leading full mask theatre company, taking its funny and fearless brand of wordless theatre across the length and breadth of the country and beyond since 2006. The company makes accessible, humorous, human, and fearless work which is based on real life stories, and their productions are rooted strongly in social research.
This workshop marked the final event in our 2024 Community Outreach programme, made possible thanks to generous funding from the Brelms Trust and the Two Ridings Foundation. 2024 saw RTF take the astonishing Goofus Theatre into care settings and singer Nicola Mills entertained older people across another day in care homes. We also organised two craft workshops with care assistants, helping find new ways to be creative with residents and service users and making some new friends along the way. We look forward to developing new projects in 2025.
